19th century Woven Grain Canister Basket. Spectacular hand woven grain canister basket made from woven reed on bamboo frame with natural tree sap lacquer mixed with clay pressed into the woven reed to seal to exterior. Hand forged iron clamps are used to hold the bamboo rim in shape and for rings attaching the wooden handles. The light tones of the woven reed mixed with the darker tones of the lacquer mixture used to seal the basket create a beautiful contrast of natural wood tones. Wonderful basket showcasing exceptional craftmanship used to create a utilitarian basket, having a beautiful rustic patina. Can be used for everyday storage. Extremely strong, solid, in very good original condition.
