The Fibra basket, a design by Sebastian Herkner, makes everyday life a little more beautiful. You can use the basket, available in three sizes and four colors, as a fruit bowl on the dining table, a tray for keys and mail in the hallway, or to store towels neatly in the bathroom. Each basket is handcrafted in Colombia using Esparto grass for these woven baskets. The grass grows wild in the Colombian highlands, starting from an altitude of 2,600 meters. After it’s been cut, the grass is dried and dyed, using mainly natural pigments. Just this preparation of the grass takes seven days, while the actual weaving is done in three to six days, depending on the size of the basket.German designer Sebastian Herkner is a long-term collaborator of Ames and has visited Colombia multiple times to experience the country’s cities, nature and people first hand. He also visited many of the ateliers that Ames has partnered with to learn about the unique traditional crafts of Colombia's regions. A sought-after contemporary designer and recipient of many industry awards, he has worked with many international design brands, creating intriguing pieces that showcase his intuition for interesting material, color, and texture combinations.
