Large bench in solid pine and a harder wood resembling chestnut. The storage compartment is composed of 17th–18th-century elements that were reworked in the 19th century to transform the piece into a seat. It was likely originally an 18th-century chest, carved on all four sides, which was later adapted into a bench in the 19th century. The lower section features deeply carved reliefs typical of Alpine or Central European rural craftsmanship: undulating motifs and rhythmic patterns worked into framed panels. The 19th-century adaptation added a backrest with straight uprights and three openwork, saw-cut elements, as well as simple, harmonious armrests. The hinged seat retains the original chest’s function, opening to reveal a storage space. The entire piece shows an old, well-established patina — worn but consistent — reflecting its long use and the evolution of the furniture over the centuries.
