Add a distinctive touch to your library or favorite room with this handsome English Tunbridge writing box with abstract marquetry from the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. It was beautifully hand-made from walnut and inlaid with two rectangular geometric mosaic bands of ebony, boxwood and other woods. The interior folding panels open to storage compartments and remarkably, the box retains its original glass inkwell, velvet covering and key. It also includes two writing instruments and the key opens and closes the locking mechanism for security purposes. This lovely English box is also ideal for storing keepsakes, photos or jewelry. The interior folding wood panels have some cracks as shown, otherwise this fine box is in very good antique condition with a wonderful patina, unrestored and with normal wear from age and use.
