Spectacular antique Anglo -Indian wood and brass-bound trunk or cash box, heavily detailed 19th-century merchant chests or dowry boxes from Rajasthan, India Built from a dense, dark hardwood—frequently roheda wood or teak—and structured with heavy metal reinforcement. Features thick brass banding arranged in a distinct grid-like panel layout. Decorated across the bands with raised iron rivets and highly ornate, circular brass boss medallions centrally pinned into each panel. Outfitted with an authentic centrally-aligned iron hasp and latch mechanism to secure valuables. These boxes were historically utilised by regional merchants to protect cash and financial ledger books or served families as ornamental dowry chests (pithara or pataro) to preserve precious textiles and bridal jewellery during transit.
