This lovely old chest was made in Beijing during the mid 19th century, where it would have been used for holding money and valuables. The top has two storage sections that are secured with the original heavy brass hardware. Central storage is accessed through two small doors that open out to the main space inside and there is a removable post between them. The original lacquer has been stripped back to reveal the pale elm wood beneath, making the piece more rustic in appearance. Make this a wonderful, interesting addition to a living room or reception area.
