Designed to serve as a container for sea transport, sea chests were sometimes elaborately adorned with intricate ironwork as is the case with this museum quality extra large, hinged, dome top chest. The chest has high quality, detailed, decorative forged iron edging. Includes a working lock. The top of the chest shows the remnants of an old paper tag as well as unique hand stenciled three petal rosettes. Circa Late 18th to Early 19th Century Swedish/ Norwegian (Scandinavian).
