Antique wooden trunk late 18th century. Old antique blanket chest with plain exterior with iron lock and original key. Moulded edges. Beautifull patinated worn lid fixed with large strap loop hinges. Interior fitted with small, lidded ‘candle box’. Hidden drawer below carved ‘AC Ryckaert den 4 anno 1793 Januarus’. Originating from Flanders when part of the French First Republic in 1792 following the French Revolution. Probably a dower chest which was given to young girls preparing for marriage.
