Pewter, a relatively easy metal for working, was a favorite of French makers during the Art Deco period. Sitoleux was one of the most accomplished artists of the group. The top glides on and off this exquisite example of the master craftsman’s art. Sitoleux gave this handsomely decorated box a beautiful patina along with its striking organic and machine-age motifs (the French often incorporated opposing design motifs in a single object). The box is majestically signed -- the artist’s final statement! Measurements: about four and one-half inches across, standing 1 and a half high.
