Kentucky 18th Century Stage Coach Trunk

Chairish

$3,402

If this trunk could speak, it would tell a story of its many journeys from Frankfort, Kentucky to many parts of the country, beginning in the mid to late 1700’s. It would tell tales about its owners Jephthah and Peter Dudley, two well-known brothers, veterans of the War of 1812 and prominent businessmen of Frankfort, Kentucky. In studying the primitive construction of this trunk combined with an understanding of the time period and the geographic origin, one would determine it was primitively, yet hardily hand-made in the mid to late 1700’s. The trunk would eventually be used throughout the early 1800’s for the Dudley House’s stagecoach service line for offering transportation for guests who came from all over the country, to stay at their establishment. The hand-forged nails, spikes, latch/lock works and handles, along with the raw hide used for hinging and knot repair in the construction of this trunk, make it historically unique and a stunning Kentucky-made piece for anyone interested in such rich history. Dimensions: Width: 41.5” Depth: 21” Height: 18.25”
