Beautiful painted bridal chest from Germany, from the Swabian Alps to be exact. The chest is painted in a gray-blue color and features floral decorations on the front panel. This old paint is quite worn and weathered which gives it a rustic and characteristic look. It used to be customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was afterwards placed on the farm in a showroom that was only rarely used for high visits or special occasions. So a beautiful and decorative piece of history. This one dates from 1825/1850. 54cm high, 133cm wide, 64cm deep. This item shows signs of heavy use and weathered old paint. But it is restored in a manner it is ready for daily use without losing its characteristic appearance.
