Antique Chinese black lacquered chest With painted lotus lowers circa late 19th or early century. The lotus flower is significant symbol in Chinese culture representing purity ,spiritual awaking and rebirth. Chest like this used store cloths and linens. The red lacquer interior is typical of Chinese lacquer chest. The height of chest by itself, it's 13.5" which I believe later on the base was added.
