The studs have been slightly shortened over the centuries. The back and studs each consist of a single plank; the front, sides, and lid are made of two planks. Two hinge bands terminate on the lid in a six-leaf rosette decoration; the middle band ends at the front in a latch bolt for the lock. Minor imperfections in the iron decoration and wood do not detract from the overall impression of this authentic, almost 500 (!) year-old, archaic-looking piece of furniture.
