This exceptional piece offers not only timeless craftsmanship but also a documented connection to one of the Chesapeake Bay's most celebrated historic properties. The Inn at Perry Cabin traces its origins to the early 19th century, when Samuel Hambleton, a veteran of the War of 1812, returned to his hometown of St. Michaels after receiving a land grant for his military service. He established the estate known as Perry Cabin Farm, designing its north wing to evoke the cabin of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship, the USS Niagara. Today, the estate is a distinguished waterfront luxury resort, and this chest was purchased during a 21st-century auction of furnishings from the property. Crafted from gorgeous solid oak, this chest is very heavy and built to withstand a lifetime of use. It features hand-forged steel straps, hinges, and substantial side carrying handles, along with hand-cut dovetail joinery throughout—hallmarks of skilled period craftsmanship.
