Antique Tibetan Cabinet With Dragon Motif Hand-Painted 19th Century Altar Chest From T. Gregory Imports
Chairish$4,720
A stunning and authentic antique Tibetan altar cabinet hand-painted with a five-clawed dragon encircled by clouds and flames, a powerful imperial symbol representing strength, prosperity, and protection. This remarkable piece was imported and sold by T. Gregory Imports (Jacksonville Beach, FL) in 2004, noted as being approximately 200–250 years old at the time of sale and originally priced at $2,950. Its provenance supports a likely mid- to late-18th century origin (circa 1750–1850). The chest features vivid natural pigments in deep red, gold, and emerald green, with Tibetan script panels and floral scrollwork below. Carved framing, iron ring pulls, and aged patina attest to its handcrafted, centuries-old character. Inside are two fixed shelves offering generous storage, making this an equally functional and decorative showpiece. Originally used to store sacred texts or ritual objects in a monastery setting, it embodies the artistry and spirituality of the Himalayan region.
