Each side of this vintage Chinese trunk is decorated with scenery of a lavish mountainside palace, brushed with intricate gold linework atop red and black lacquer. Robed members of the imperial court stroll through the palace courtyard, surrounded by grand archways and lattice railings. The scenes are dotted with foliage and rocks, enclosed within cloud-form medallions and the occasional scholars' object. The back is finished with an elegant spray of flowers and swaying grass.
