This later 19 century antique cabinets was retrieved from Gansu province, a province in north-central China famous for its hanging Great Wall. This Gansu cabinet was used to store the bedding and linen. It has 3 compartments that can only be accessed from the top. The painting on three panels of this cabinet demonstrates the artisan’s commanding skill of shui-mo (水墨, "water and ink") also loosely termed watercolour or brush painting. With red square frames, three panels are transformed into 3 beautiful traditional Chinese mountain & water painting. Three panels can turned into 3 doors opening from front.
