Stunning carved Burmese teak with hand forged iron strap work, very large scale with turned finials, hinged panel top with heavy chain top closure, and large open interior. Used for collecting and storing a young bride’s most precious silks, strongboxes such as this trace their origins to those created for the British East India Company which melded classic English design with Indian craftsmanship and embellishment.
