An elegant, artistically constructed, 19th century four-tiered handwrought iron game rack with a center ring for hanging. It can also stand alone, as photographed, using the bottom tier as feet. Each of the top three tiers have three arms with five hooks on each arm. The fourth tier is constructed differently, still with three arms (or legs), but point downward with five "branches" each having eye rings on the underside that could hold additional hooks. It is constructed in three sections that rotate independently, allowing space between items on the different tiers. Game racks were used to hang small game meat such as fowl, rabbits, etc to dry after a hunt and also used to dry herbs, etc.. The graceful lines of this piece make it perfect as a display for a business, in a modern day kitchen to hang pots and/or utensils, or to dry herbs, flowers, etc. Throw on a few ornaments to create a tree or the holidays. Dimensions are about 20" W x 20" D x 34" H. It is in really good condition given its age. There are two heavy iron wires connecting the top and middle sections, possibly a repair or possibly for function. There is some light rust.
