Here we are again, in "good as it gets" territory, and loving it! This American Art Nouveau lamp (gently) approaches the artistic excellence of ... well, something European. Of course the Europeans, and particularly the French, employed the finest designers of the time for their product, and if you've been to the museums you've seen the results, which are nothing less than breathtaking. Yet, this lamp, at least in my humble opinion, does approach that sort of European design excellence. And for American, well... it's stellar. Lovely proportions, elegant decorations, top quality materials (solid brass with a very nice old patina). I've fitted the lamp with a hand-blown Art Glass shade, unsigned but probably by the esteemed Charles Schneider. The mottling and the arrangement of the colors are so typical of Schneider, how could it be otherwise? As you an see from the photos, the shade takes on different color characteristics when the light is on, which is typical of the better art glass shades. Of course what the camera sees and what we see in person are not entirely in line! I've rewired this lamp with (antique-appearing) rayon-covered cord and installed a hi-lo switch on the line. It has a porcelain socket, very heat-resistant. This lamp is suitable for the desk or on a table... anywhere you want a Beauty Bash! Measurements: Fourteen inches high, 12 front-to-back. The base is about 8 long by 4 3/4 across.
