19th Century Famille Verte Vase Lamp Conversion On White Ground Large, Unusual

Chairish

$1,795

The color palette, the size and the fine artwork on the surface of this late 19th century lamp make it stunning. This lamp has everything. Of circular section and baluster form with flaring rim, tall neck with exquisite pierced handles or ears, the white-ground body enamel decorated with birds, dragonflies and flowers, the base with stylized pink and yellow "tongues" issuing from the foot, on a metal plate affixed to a wooden stand. The vase is from the 19th century according to the appraiser, but the lamp was converted sometime in the early or mid 20th century. But it is the vase that commands the attention here. There are cranes painted with detailed expressions, it seems, and dragonflies painted into this wonderful piece. The on/off switch (three-way), may give a clue to its age. It is sort of a metal toggle switch that has oxidized, as has the plate at the top of the porcelain section of the lamp and a bronze-like band at the base of the lamp above the hardwood base. The finial was added on and is not original, nor is the shade. It had a crystal finial in the antique store. It was not included and did not seem original. There is oxidation on the plate of the lamp below the socket and oxidation at the bottom between the porcelain and the wood stand.. Still, this lamp presents beautifully and is worth acquiring for a singular source of light! This lamp is extremely heavy, and it will not be shipped parcel post. We will double box it and send it carefully by In-Home, white gloved delivery.
