Adorned by a triumvirate of griffins (that mythical beast amalgamation of the eagle, king of the sky, and the lion, ruler of the land), this stately table lamp is set the guard your treasure (one of the griffin’s main duties). Three cloven hooves (evoking Pan, or a satyr, or the Devil), add to this lamp’s status as a power symbol. The metal is mostly composed of solid brass pieces (the griffins and most of the shaft, as well as the various electrical components), the base of cast iron. The design of this lamp is very much in the spirit of 1910, and the Bradley and Hubbard Company, among other top purveyors of lighting at that seminal time. Rewired and fitted with a rayon-covered cord, in keeping with the antique look. Use any standard-based bulbs you want, no limit on the wattage. The sockets activate by pulling their chains. The shade is new, made of paper and intended to evoke leather or some such material. The base is in what I call “excellent antique condition.” Dimensions: standing 23 ¼ inches high to the top of the (fabulous, original) finial. The base is about 8 inches in diameter, and the shade’s diameter at the bottom is 14 inches.
