Japanese Bronze Dragon Lamp Large 36" Meiji Period with Engraved Base AsianThis is a large and stunning Japanese Meiji period bronze dragon vase that has been converted into a lamp. Cast fully in the round, the high relief dragon wraps around the neck with remarkable depth and detail. The seahorse finial and engraved base, decorated with figures, pavilions, bridges, and a stylized landscape, show the same level of careful craftsmanship throughout. At some point in its life the bronze was professionally converted into a table lamp, a common practice for decorative pieces of this caliber. The warm bronze surface has developed a rich, mellow patina over the years, with light wear and small marks consistent with age and use. Even before it's lit, it has the presence of a sculptural object, and once illuminated it becomes a real focal point. It's a striking example of the decorative metalwork that made Japanese export art so highly regarded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Overall size with harp: 36" (24" to top of lamp socket), 10"W
