A striking antique table lamp by Salem Brothers, New York, active circa 1898–1931 and among the most recognized American lamp makers of the early 20th century. Standing 30 inches tall with an 8-inch diameter base, this substantial example is cast spelter with a warm gilt and polychrome finish. The reeded columnar shaft rises from a circular foot densely worked with acanthus leaf and scrollwork relief. At the base of the column, two naturalistic dolphin figures emerge in high relief from a scalloped shell form — a motif drawn from neoclassical and Beaux-Arts traditions. The column terminates in an acanthus-capped dome with beaded collar. Salem Bros. stamp present on the underside. Fitted with a black rectangular shade included with purchase. The lamp is very heavy.
