Chinese Hat Stand Table Lamp Bat Decor Iron Red Enamel Good Fortune Circa Republic Period

Chairish

$950

Chinese porcelain hat stand with pierced quatrefoil ventilation. The vibrant iron-red enamels are set against a white ground in scrolling floral patterns, dense peony and foliage motifs, auspicious bats symbolizing good fortune ("fu") and calligraphy. In traditional Chinese society, hats were powerful symbols of status and rank. Because these hats were often valuable and delicate, specialized stands were made to support and display them when not being worn. Hat stands flourished during the Qing Dynasty and continued into the Republican era, when their function evolved into elegant decorative objects for the home or scholar’s studio. This hat stand has been converted into a handsome table lamp with brass fittings and a finely carved wood base, blending rich symbolism, vivid enamels, and timeless appeal. A comparable example, also converted into a table lamp, sold at Christie's for a significant price, underscoring the desirability of this Chinese hat stand style within the decorative arts market. This lamp makes a striking statement in a living room on a console, side table, or sideboard, where its height and ornamentation can be fully appreciated. It is equally well suited to an entry hall or dining room, adding warmth and presence atop a buffet, sideboard or similar. It will be professionally packed, fully insured, and shipped with tracking. Please note that the lamp shades shown are for styling inspiration and are not included. Measurements: 28.5” high including finial (overall height adjustable up to 31.5”) Porcelain section: approximately 11” high x 5” diameter Weight: Approximately 4 lbs. unpacked
