A Pair of French Regency Charles X intricately Etched / chiseled Gilt Bronze Candlestick Lamps Mounted as lamps. This exquisite pair of French Empire candlesticks is attributed to Claude Galle The chased and gilt bronze works exemplify the grandeur of early 19th-century artistry The partially fluted shafts are decorated with floral motifs. featuring a gilt bronze base with intricate swan and foliate motifs. The circular base features a central medallion of a woman in a helmet—representing Pallas Athena, the ancient Greek goddess of wisdom, strategic warfare, handicraft, and the arts -surrounded by a sunburst design, flanked by swan motifs. It is crafted from ormolu (gilt bronze) with a combination of matte and shiny finishes, a hallmark of high-quality French bronze from the Charles X period. The overall design incorporates Renaissance Revival elements, such as the detailed foliate borders and griffins or swans framing the central figure. The base also incorporates detailed aquatic imagery, specifically a dolphin or similar sea creature, surrounded by foliage and ribbon motifs. Just and exceptional piece art work.
