Federal Style Eagle Table Lamp In Gilt Metal, 1950s

Chairish

$884

A Federal style eagle table lamp produced in the United States during the 1950s, combining gilt metal, brass, and turned wood in a sculptural and characterful composition. The design centres on a cast metal eagle with outstretched wings, finished in a warm gilt surface that has developed gentle wear over time, softening its overall tone. The bird is mounted on a turned wooden pedestal, which in turn rises from an unusual barrel-form base constructed in stained softwood. Encircled by a strap detail, the base introduces a subtle vernacular element, contrasting with the classical reference of the eagle above. This interplay between formal Federal style motifs and a more rustic, almost folk-like base gives the lamp a distinctive presence. The vertical brass stem extends cleanly from the figure, reinforcing the height and balance of the piece while complementing the gilt finish. Condition is very good. There is minor wear to the gilt surface of the eagle and light wear to the lower edge of the wooden base, both consistent with age and use. The lamp remains fully functional and is wired for the UK with a bayonet fitting and gold-toned braided cable. Height: 52 cm / 20.47 in (to top of lampholder) Diameter: 19 cm / 7.48 in Lampshade not included. Up to 250V (Europe/UK Standard). The wiring of this item may be original and might need replacement, if not specified otherwise.
