Large 33.5" 1950s Signed Earle Chapman Substantial Cast Plaster Lamp W/ Tanner Kenzie Shade
Chairish$780
A monumental 33.5-inch table lamp by the prestigious Chapman Manufacturing Company. A magnificent and highly substantial sculptural table lamp designed by Earle F. "Sandy" Chapman, circa 1950s. This heavy, hand-cast architectural plaster (composition) piece features a dramatic design of deeply carved acanthus scrolls. The finish is a sophisticated matte black, accented by hand-applied gold-leaf style highlights that emphasize its fluid, three-dimensional form. This authentic early-period Chapman piece is evidenced by the original "CHAPMAN" engraving at the base and a surviving portion of the "Earle Ch" maker's sticker. The Three-way lamp is elegantly paired with a long, custom-fitted Tanner Kenzie drum shade. The shade features a luxurious gold foil lining, which reflects a warm, atmospheric glow directly onto the sculptural base when lit, highlighting the intricate plasterwork. Materials: Hand-Cast Architectural Plaster, Composition, Gold Foil, Tanner Kenzie Fabric Shade. Condition: Good Vintage Condition. As is characteristic of mid-century cast plaster, this piece shows an authentic patina. There is one small, singular chip near the signature at the base and a few light surface scratches (see detailed photos). The Tanner Kenzie shade is in excellent condition. Original wiring is tested and fully functional.
