Museum prototype of the Flamingo table lamp presented for the first time at the Triennale in 1951. Contrary to lamps with flexible elements or hinge joints, the system developed by Hagenauer consisted of three (two obtuse angled and one right-angled) lengths of tube, each of which could be swiveled independently around its own axis, which granted light in all directions. This system was patented in 1949 by Karl Hagenauer. This prototype differs in some details from the later serial production: The height is 60 cm (10 cm more than the standard model); the cast iron stand is flatter; the cable is not routed through the stand (but through the lower tube); the switch is located on the reflector; there is no paper label (Rohrwinkel/Patent/Flamingo/Hagenauer/Wien), instead the lamp is imprinted on the stand: "Patent Ang." (meaning "patent pending"). This means that this prototype was created before the patent was issued in 1949. The lamp consists of a patinated cast metal foot, a brass tube, and a grey lacquered perforated metal shade. It remains in original condition.
