Large Italian Studio Pottery Table Lamp, Volcanic Lava Glaze, Circa 1960s–70s

Chairish

$650

A substantial and commanding table lamp in hand-thrown studio pottery, likely Italian, dating to the 1960s or early 1970s. The ovoid body — 18 inches in diameter and 34 inches to the top of the harp — is covered in a richly layered reduction-fired glaze in deep oxblood, burnished copper, and charcoal, with repeating raised oval motifs encircling the form in stacked registers. The effect is volcanic and tactile, the glaze surface alive with pooling, pitting, and metallic flash characteristic of high-fire reduction work. The ceramic body retains its original turned walnut stem and period harp, topped with a wood ball finial consistent with the original conversion. Wired for the US market with a UL-listed socket (Issue No. K-100), original brown cloth cord intact. Base is felt-padded. Maker's mark present on base but illegible through felt. Glaze character and form are consistent with Italian studio production of the period — Albisola, Deruta, or Bagni-orbit workshops — though it remains unsigned for listing purposes. No shade. No cracks or repairs noted. Condition: Vintage good. Original wiring intact but aged. This lamp works Dimensions: 18" diameter × 34" H (to top of harp)
