The multi-layered objects were constructed in a spontaneous way by assembling stoneware semi-cylinders as if playing with building blocks. With its rigid structure and matt tactile surface, the light piece balances between modern precision and sensual craftsmanship. The soft shadows highlight the traces of touch left by their maker and makes us aware of the craftsmen behind the object.Since 2015, product designer Evelina Kudabaite keeps on developing and making GIRIA objects. Designer firsthomeware collection launched in 2015 during the London Design Festival. Everyday objects are used, seen, touched. Tactility and expressive qualities of materials have important communicative value, so the design process requires for intense research on textures. GIRIA is a homeware collection balancing between tactility, shape and color. The project is aimed to pass the sensations of the forest through Material, to establish a connection between the user and the object. This collection is result of an experimental process by which it was meant to show how materials, which are destined to become waste - tree bark and leaves - can be transformed into sustainable design through the traditional crafts. It is a research on the alternative and unconventional ways to shape wood, which reminds of the culinary process. During the research a recipe of a unique Material that consists of harmless organic substances has been found. No two items in GIRIA are the same: each is made by hand and the bark dust of diferent kinds of trees gives a unique texture, varying in colour and roughness of a surface. It takes time to make a piece in GIRIA, that is considering preparation of the bark, drying time - from days, to weeks - and variability of the process. All the items are coated with mix of foodsafe oils to make it more durable. The materials in GIRIA may change slowly over time and the collection distinguishes itself from mass production, making the products as individual as their owners.Evelina is a product designer based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Her research usually starts from materials and processes which transform them into design objects. She is fascinated by the narrative hidden in a product and by its power of carrying knowledge, memories and emotions in a more concrete and tactile way. When designing something, she wants to tell a story, to create a reaction of wonder and curiosity in the people who are going to interact with the object.
