The Metafora Table Lamp from FontanaArte is an object built on layering, both in its materials and in its construction. Umberto Riva designed it in the early 1980s at the invitation of artistic director Gae Aulenti, who was refocusing FontanaArte's output around glass. The conical shade is made of layered opal glass, set above a transparent glass base that conceals the metal frame within it. All the elements interlock without visible fixings. Produced using traditional glassblowing and other artisanal techniques, the lamp reflects a deliberate commitment to craft-based production.
