Mid-Century Hollywood Regency Parlor Lamp With Drum Shade, 1950

1st Dibs

$550

This lamp is a striking example of mid-century Hollywood Regency style, likely dating from the 1950s or 1960s. It embodies the era's love for "glamour-meets-classical" aesthetics, leaning heavily into a theatrical, ornate look. The lamp features a neoclassical urn-shaped base with heavy Rococo and Baroque influences. The bold scrolling and acanthus leaf motifs are designed to create a sense of opulence and "old world" luxury. The base is finished in antiqued gold leaf. A hallmark of this specific style is the addition of crystal prisms (pendalogues) hanging from the "neck" of the lamp. These add movement and catch the light, further leaning into the Regency glamour. The lamp has original drum style lampshade. The vertical pleating in the center panel paired with the metallic embroidered trim that was very popular in mid-century high-end lighting.Possible MakersWhile there isn’t a visible maker’s mark, this style was a specialty of several prominent 20th-century lighting companies:Stiffel: Known for high-quality heavy brass and ornate neoclassical designs.Loevsky & Loevsky (L&L WMC): A prolific manufacturer of ornate, cast-metal lamps that often featured these exact types of scrolls and crystal drops.Marbro Lamp Company: Famous for more "over-the-top" and large-scale Hollywood Regency pieces. The lamp is about 36" high and measures 9" x 9" at the bottom of the base, and 12" x 12" in the middle. The lampshade is 17" in diameter, is in excellent condition and provides a soft, elegant light. We prefer to ship this lamp via uship courier. Please contact us for your individual shipping quote.
