This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Jar. Circa Approx 1870s. At Some Point in the Past is has Been Professionally Electrified and Converted to be Used as a Table Lamp Base. It Comes with No Shade. It is Embossed with a Number 2 Confirming its 2 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It has No Makers Mark but it is was Most Likely Made in New England. It has a Nicely Textured Salt Glaze Exterior. It is Also Rendered a Classic American Slightly Tapered Form with 2 Side Carry Handle - "Ears". The Front of the Jug has a Wonderful Blue Color Hand Decorated Stylized Butterfly Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Storage Jars were Commonly Used to Store All Sorts of Liquids & Food Items. It is in Excellent Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. Only 1 Minor Imperfection - a Very Small Chip on the Inner Perimeter Top Rim. No Cracks - No Repairs. It has Small Hole Drilled in the Base Area to Accommodate the Professional Electrical ( Brass ) Conversion. The Front Base Perimeter has a Flaw but This Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. I have Tested the Cord and Socket with a Light Bulb and it is Working - Functional. It Measures Overall as Used 25 inches Tall From Base to Finial The Jar Measures Overall Approx. 11 3/4 inches Tall . 9 1/4 Inches Long - Wide.
