Oversized 1970s Mid-Century "Fat Lava" Volcanic Globe Lamp

Chairish

$1,250

A monumental and rare large-scale example of 1970s "Fat Lava" art pottery. This table lamp is distinguished by its massive 15-inch diameter globe-form body, providing a significant canvas for its dramatic, highly tactile volcanic crater glaze. The finish is a masterclass in texture, featuring variegated tones of vivid tangerine orange and deep, earthy umbers that mimic the raw cooling crust of molten rock. The sculptural silhouette is accented by four integrated loop handles at the shoulder, a modern nod to the classic ancient amphora shape and is finished with a warm wooden neck. Standing 36 inches tall, this "hero" piece is designed to anchor a large interior, functioning as both a lighting source and a significant work of Brutalist-inspired ceramic art. Dimensions: 15" W × 15" D × 36" H (Total Height). Height to socket: 25". Styles: Mid-Century Modern, Brutalist, Organic Modern. Period: 1970s. Materials: Ceramic, Wood. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The heavy ceramic base is structurally sound with no cracks or repairs. There is one minor, singular white flake/chip at the very bottom edge of the base (visible upon close inspection), consistent with the age and fragile nature of thick volcanic glazes. Original wiring is in good working order. Labeled: Unlabeled. Shade not included.
