Pair Of Vintage German Emerald Green Glass Girandole Pair, Back-Cut Crystal Spears, Electrified

This strong pair of hand-painted vintage girandoles, designed to bespeak luxury, were made in W. Germany, c.1950 in the tradition of Victorian crystal girandoles. The rich emerald-green, fine-cut crystal bowls are of thick, heavy cut glass, and are hand-painted with a gold appliqué of scrolled grape vine pattern. The high quality is unmistakable. They are adorned with dazzling hand-done, back-cut Albert crystal spears, each topped with two large crystal octagon jewels. They were made in the U.S. zone of West Germany in a program designed to rebuild the German economy in the post WW II European Recovery Program. In our experience with many items from this era, quality was of a high order in the items they produced. for export. We show in the final photo a label on one of the undersides, now covered by the brass base used to convert them into table lamps. To give them the added functional use beyond their decorative strength, we have mounted them on brass bases that enhance the glass foot of the girandole and provide a stronger visual statement, as well as allowing us to add wiring underneath in order to light them. Each has a good cord length with switch. Lighting a girandole is an unusual added feature and, as you will note in the photos, allows the lamps to cast their rich emerald color on the wall, making an exotic statement. Based on our present studio's professional quality standards, you are getting about a $500 built-in value for converting these girandoles into electric lamps. Each girandole is 14.25" tall, 8.5" wide at the base, 6.5" wide at the top, and weighs 7 lbs.
