Pair, Robert Sonneman For Kovacs Glass And Aluminum Table Lamps, 1990

Chairish

$300

Sleek, architectural, and unmistakably modern — this striking pair of table lamps was designed by Robert Sonneman for George Kovacs. Sonneman, celebrated as one of the leading voices of American modern lighting, is known for his sculptural forms and innovative use of materials. Each lamp features a rectilinear base of thick, clear glass panels with frosted interior accents, intersected by brushed aluminum platforms that anchor the form. The glass construction gives the lamps a luminous, floating quality, while the minimalist lines reflect Sonneman’s signature Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic. Robert Sonneman is often called the “lighting designer’s designer,” with work held in the MoMA collection. His collaborations with George Kovacs in the 1980s–90s produced some of the most recognizable icons of postmodern lighting design. This pair exemplifies the period’s fascination with transparency, geometry, and material contrast. Shades are not included.
