A rare table lamp produced by the Italian firm Il Picchio. The base is made of glossy red glazed ceramic and features a spherical opal shade partially recessed into the top. It almost seems as though the luminous sphere is emerging from the heart of the cube, creating an extraordinary contrast in texture and form between the solid cube and the ethereal lightness of the sphere. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
