She was born in 1927 in östersund and began her creative path with ceramic studies at konstfack, but soon shifted her focus to furniture design under the mentorship of the legendary carl malmsten. during her time at ikea (1964–1993), she created over 100 products. she was inspired by rustic scandinavian style and created furniture with soft shapes and user-friendly design. together with tomas jelinek, she designed the elegant stockholm collection that was launched in 1985, a tribute to swedish and central european furniture tradition. tomas jelinek was a czech-swedish furniture designer who made a significant mark in ikea's design history. He was born in 1935 in what was then czechoslovakia and trained at the school of design and crafts in brno, where he was influenced by the central european tradition and designers such as josef frank. during the soviet invasion in 1968, jelinek fled to sweden. he started working at ikea the same year, initially with catalog production and later as a designer.
