Marimekko’s Unikko table runner brings bold red and soft light-toned poppies to the dining table. Made from a cotton-linen blend, the long, narrow runner adds vibrancy and charm to both everyday meals and more festive gatherings. The versatile design pairs just as beautifully with a minimalist setting as it does alongside colorful, richly patterned tableware. The Unikko pattern came about in 1964 after Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, had announced in public that no floral fabrics would be designed at Marimekko. Maija Isola did not accept rules or restrictions and designed, in protest, a complete collection of bold floral patterns: Unikko, a Finnish word that means poppy. Today, Unikko is one of Marimekko's best-known patterns and is recognized around the world.
