Melt Large Portable

Carry it to the garden; at dusk it glows like liquid glass. Designed by Tom Dixon and made in Germany, the Melt Large Portable turns the famous distorted orb into a cordless lamp. By day the shell reads as a mirror; switch it on and the globe goes semi-transparent, revealing those swirling “melt” patterns that shift as you move. Built for inside and out, it runs on a rechargeable battery for up to 8 hours. A three-step touch dimmer sets the mood. Rubber pads steady the tripod; the hanging strap makes quick work of a branch or pergola beam. Charging is via a 1.5 m waterproof USB-C cable, so topping up on the terrace is easy. Bring it back in when the night’s over. At 22″ H × 20″ W × 10″ D (57 × 50 × 25 cm) and about 6.4 lb (2.9 kg), it’s substantial yet carryable. Choose Copper, Chrome, Gold, or Smoke—the effect stays hypnotic, the tone is yours.
