West African Table Malinke In Native Wood

Chairish

$3,147

This 20th century table is a real ritual table of the Malinké people, sometimes used for sacrifices. The Malinké people are a people of West Africa (Mali, Senegal). This large indigenous wooden table is engraved and inlaid with metal pieces forming geometric shapes. The symbols have real meanings: thus the triangles represent sex and man, the circles represent the sun and the star, and the lines on the edge of the painting represent the stairway to heaven. The whole evokes a representation of the birth of the world until its disappearance. This table has a very nice patina of use. A glass top covers and protects the wooden top. The table has a metal base.
