Lapuan Kankurit’s Venla tablecloth is a tribute to Finnish craftsmanship and literary traditions. Designed by Elina Helenius, this linen cloth is woven from melange yarns, where the interplay of two tones creates a vibrant, nuanced surface. The pattern is accentuated by a subtle contrast stripe made from a thicker yarn, adding a refined sense of rhythm and texture. The Venla collection draws inspiration from the rough linen shirts featured in Aleksis Kivi’s book Seven Brothers – a classic of Finnish literature – as well as the character Venla, who was deeply admired by the brothers. The machine-washable linen textiles are made from certified long fiber flax yarn, grown in Central Europe using only natural rainwater. The weaving takes place at Lapuan Kankurit’s own mill in Western Finland – Lapuan Kankurit meaning “the weavers of Lapua” in Finnish.
