Early 20th Century Royal Bonn Delft Faience Sardine Dish With Dolphin Handle

Chairish

$695

Crafted in Germany circa 1900 by Franz Anton Mehlem for Royal Bonn, this elegant antique faience serving dish is executed in the traditional Delft manner with richly detailed cobalt blue decoration on a white ground. The rectangular covered dish rests on an attached underplate with shaped scalloped edges and features hand-painted Dutch landscape scenes including windmills, cottages, and sailboats framed by scrolling floral motifs. The removable lid is crowned with a sculptural dolphin-form handle in high relief, adding movement and whimsical character to the composition. Additional floral decoration extends across the sides and tray, while the softly molded edges and hand-painted details reflect the refined craftsmanship associated with Royal Bonn ceramics of the period. Originally designed as a sardine or butter dish, the antique porcelain server retains its underside mark reading “Royal Bonn Delft 845/F.” The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a vibrant blue and white palette with a beautifully glossy finish throughout. Dimensions: 8.25”W x 6.75”D x 4.75”H
