Designed by Dutch designer Nicolaï Carels for The Meccano Company, the "Il Litro" teapot features a sculptural, asymmetrical ceramic body finished in high-gloss black glaze. The form sits low and rounded, with an integrated angled spout and a tall vertical neck wrapped in a ribbed gray rubber handle. A rounded black ceramic stopper with gasket caps the neck, completing the functional yet strongly sculptural composition. The contrast between the reflective black ceramic body and the matte gray rubber handle is a deliberate design gesture characteristic of late 20th-century Dutch design thinking.Carels is best known for the "Le Lapin" tea kettle (1997), which entered the permanent collection of Rotterdam's Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum — one of the Netherlands' foremost design and fine art institutions.
