Beautiful French majolica oyster plate in lustrous deep coloring., circa 1875-1900. Six scallop shaped wells surround a raised center condiment well for sauce or lemons. Each plate is edged in a sienna glaze, fading to a salmon color towards the center. The wells are arranged on a bed of seaweed glazed in a rich blues and greens. The maker’s stamp and impressed mold numbers are found on the underside of the plate. Oysters plates rose to popularity in Victorian-era Europe and in America in the mid to late 1800s. Whether used on a table or for decorative purposes, the plate is sure to be a conversation piece! Excellent condition with slight age related crazing. These plates are sold individually.
