This elegant tapestry originated from the Royal Gobelins Manufactory in Paris in the second half of the eighteenth century. This prestigious National Workshop produced tapestries for the French Royal Court and other wealthy patrons. In a provincial landscape a group of musicians celebrate an outdoor concert in the month of April. For many centuries, the theme of musicians represented an enduring source of inspiration for tapestry-weaving. An elaborate border, rich with medallions and floral cartouches, compliments the vibrant subject of the composition. The original may be seen at the Gobelins Museum in Paris. This beautiful tapestry is Silkscreened (also known as serigraphed) onto an irregularly woven fabric made from wool, cotton or linen. Considerable labour is required with this process including hand-painting to finish the details. Silk screen tapestries appear antiqued and aged giving them the look and feel of tapestries that hang in museums today. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
