This beautiful tapestry is a woven reproduction of an early 17th Century world map originally designed by the Dutch cartographer Abraham Ortelius (1528-1622), one of the most prominent cartographers of the 16th Century. The inscription TYPUS ORBIS TERRARUM means A Representation of the World. This map confirms that the Dutch pioneers of the day possessed a growing body of knowledge as to the then known world.
