This tapestry is after a design from the series of tapestries called The New Indies, after Franois Desportes, originally woven at the Royal Gobelins Manufactory in Paris around 1740, and now at the Mobilier National in Paris. The style of this 18th Century tapestry is slightly exotic, reflecting the spirit of exploration of the period, and the interest in distant and unknown lands. This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
