Tree Of Life - Dark Loom Woven Tapestry - Requires Rod Size 2

This tapestry is also known as The Garden and is from an embroidered wool portiere designed by John Henry Dearle (1860-1932), an associate of William Morris (1834-1896) who worked very closely with him for many years. This piece was produced around 1910 by the firm of Morris & Company, the firm originally established by William Morris at Merton Abbey, Surrey. From studying an old French Arts and Crafts manual, Morris taught himself the technique of weaving, and thereafter taught his workmen the technique, and is thereby attributed with reviving the craft of tapestry-weaving in England during the last quarter of the 19th century. This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
